ALBUM TRACKS FROM 1968

PLAY THE SHOW

Last week we discussed the prominence of singles artists from this era, while alluding to the number of artists who were developing reputations as album artists. Today we focus on three of our favorite albums from 1968, each of which debuted in 1968. Albums featured in today’s show include Buffalo Springfield’s “Last Time Around”, “The Who Sell Out” and Love’s “Forever Changes.” We play a variety of songs from each of these classic releases. Hope you enjoy the program.

Again, I have to say that in this age of "Classic Rock" stations playing Stairway to Heaven and Baba O'Reilly countlessly too many times to the point where I can listen neither to the songs anymore nor to the stations, hearing "Aloneagainor" or songs from the The Who Sellout is just such a breath of fresh air despite the 40 years that have passed since the songs were issued.

I've been a fan of the show for a good year or more and have heard past shows on the net and I think this past show with the Springfield, Love and The Who had (of course according to my slanted taste) the greatest collection of outstanding songs than any other of your shows. Bravo. I'm still stunned to hear Love on the radio again. What a forgotten diamond in the rough.

One more comment especially to you as a radio guy, is that going hand in hand with the fact that the album as opposed to the single was becoming more important was that F.M. radio as opposed to A.M. was the vehicle through which these unforgettable songs were heard. These songs were staples on F.M. radio and barely, if at all, heard on A.M.

I can still remember echos of "Aloneagainor" and "Forever Changes" filtering through the F.M. airwaves in 1968.
