HOW MUSIC CHANGED, PART 137-13 – EVERY SINGLE MOTOWN ‘A’ SIDE, PART 13
Like last week, today’s show captures a period of transition for the label. We capture the timeframe where Motown began to realize that it was trying too hard to be everything to everybody. We have a hit or two in today’s lineup, but not at the rate that a casual listener might associate with Motown. The label expected more of itself as well, and began to pull back and concentrate on its strengths, which would soon prove to be quite significant. Whatever you do, don’t miss next week’s program, when we see just how well that philosophy would pay off.
